Nursing Home Abuse

No family truly looks forward to placing a loved one with a nursing home, but sometimes their dedicated professionals, nurturing environment and round-the-clock care are required to help maintain a person's quality of life.

Today, nursing homes are Big Business.  As the Baby Boomer Generation's need for skilled nursing home facilities grows, profit-focused corporate chains have come to dominate the market. This increase in the number of residents and emphasis on profits has led to a distressing rise in instances of neglected and abused seniors.  However, instead of improving safety, corporate nursing homes often can be seen working to limit their accountability and deny residents’ rights rather than accept responsibility for their lack of due care.

In spite of the many laws and regulations aimed at protecting seniors, government agencies, non-profit watchdogs and media organizations consistently report that serious problems persist in our nation’s nursing homes.

Between 2000 and 2008, instances of events that cause “immediate jeopardy”- violations likely to result in serious harm or even death - rose 22 percent.  More than 90 percent of all nursing homes were guilty of at least one violation.

If you suspect that you or a loved one may be or have been the victim of such abuse or neglect, contact the Law Offices of Theodore A. Naima, P.C. right away to schedule a free consultation.  The facility may tell you that conditions such as bed-sores, poor nutrition, or acquired infections are unavoidable in the nursing home setting, but time and again our office has proven that that is not the case. In such matters, not only does the recovery benefit the resident or their family in compensation for the harm the resident has suffered, but often such suits are the only way to bring to light subpar conditions in a given facility. Bringing such delinquent caregivers to justice is the only meaningful way to prevent this harm from happening again and again, to our loved ones or the loved ones of others.

As an aside, Mr. Naima maintains his Florida Bar certification, so if you are a New York family member of a resident in a facility in Florida, don't hesitate to call. Our office can still represent your interests and those of your loved one with the level of care and commitment you have come to expect here at home.
